The Pennsauken Police Department has established a standard operating procedure (Strengthening Trust Between LE and Immigrant Communities; effective 1/30/25) that provides guidance on requests for “T” and “U” Nonimmigrant Status Certifications, commonly known as T-visas and U-visas.
Relating to T-visas, the standard operating procedure declares that the standards set forth in federal law and instructions for USCIS Form I-914 Supplement B will be followed, and it will be determined if the applicant:
- Is or has been a victim of a severe form of trafficking in persons; and
- Has complied with requests for assistance in an investigation or prosecution of the crime of trafficking
T-visa information and applications may be accessed at https://www.uscis.gov/i-914
Relating to U-visas, the standard operating procedure declares that the standards set forth in federal law and instructions for USCIS Form I-918 Supplement B will be followed, and it will be determined if the applicant:
- Is a victim of a qualifying criminal activity; and
- Was, is, or is likely to be helpful in the investigation or prosecution of that activity.
U-visa information and applications may be accessed at https://www.uscis.gov/i918
Requests for T- and U- visa certifications (see 8 U.S.C. §§ 1101(a)(15)(T) and 1101(a)(15)(U)) will be processed by a designee of the Chief of Police who has been assigned to a relevant investigation. These requests from potential victims of crime or human trafficking will be processed within 120 days.
